Genocide is a piece of history which is not allowed to be history. Towards Armenian Genocide Centennial and as a response to its continual denial by the Turkish Government, the social campaign ‘’1.5 MILLION REASONS’’ was initiated to raise the voice of talented Armenian young people from various historically Armenian areas, who have 1.5 MILLION REASONS to remember, condemn and demand justice for the recognition of the first Genocide of 20th century.
Armenian Genocide refers to mass killings of about 1.5 million Armenians in their historic homeland Western Armenia (nowadays Turkey) by the Ottoman Empire during the years of 1915 to 1923. April 24, 1915 was chosen for its commemoration as it was the date when several hundred Armenian intellectuals and representatives of national elite were arrested and subsequently massacred.
