Part 3 of 6 of the 1964 Francis Durbridge mystery. Guy has travelled to Elvindale after a message is left on his typewriter to locate Peter Antrobus, but is shocked to discover he is just a schoolboy. However, he notices that his older sister Mary seems to know who he is when she comes to collect him from the hairdressers and upon tracing her to her father's garage, notices a photo of his friend, the racing driver Don Page. He is also surprised to bump into Dr Swanley's receptionist Joyce Dean there, who seems flustered to find him there. He later quizzes Don over it at his party, but he denies knowing Mary Antrobus. But Guy does learn that Felix Hepburn tried to ring him at his home on the night of the murder, but he couldn't get through. Why, when Melissa's phone call did? And as it turns out, Don Page's phone was out of order so he had to go out and ring, while Don left the party that night to drop off actress Carol Stewart after she got drunk. And it's not the only phone call that is made that night, as Guy receives an alarming phone call from the grave...
