And now a little story about the song itself:
"Grass at Home" is a song by Vladimir Miguli based on poems by Anatoly Transversely. The most famous was the performance of the group "Earthlings". The song became the winner of the XIII All-Union Television Festival of Soviet song "Song-83". Colloquially, the song is also often called by the first lines of the text — "The Earth in the porthole".
In 2009, by the decision of Roscosmos, the song was given the official public status of the "Anthem of Russian Cosmonautics". The certificate certifying the assignment of the anthem status to the song was awarded to the former soloist of the group "Earthlings" Sergey Skachkov. The document was signed by the head of the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, Hero of the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation Sergey Krikalev.
The original poem, which was later remade to match the lyrics of the song, had the same name — "Grass at home", and was written about longing for his father's house, in particular, it featured images such as "grass", "barn", and "cow's eyes". In this first version of the poem, astronauts were not mentioned or implied. In a discussion between Vladimir Miguli, who decided to write a song for Cosmonautics Day in 1982, and the poet Anatoly Pererechny, it was decided to choose and redo this particular poem. Subsequently, the song became the anthem of the Soviet cosmonauts.
On April 12, 1982, the author Vladimir Migulya performed this song for the first time on the program "Gravity of the Earth", while its arrangement was noticeably different from the version that gained popularity later performed by the group "Earthlings" (vocals by Sergei Skachkov).
According to Sergei Skachkov, the idea of arranging the chorus came to the band while watching Cliff Richard's concert, when the song Devil Woman was playing.
The song has gained the greatest popularity compared to other songs about space exploration, such as "I believe, friends" performed by Vladimir Troshin, "He said let's go..." performed by Yuri Gulyaev, "We are the children of the Galaxy..." etc.
It was used in the 14th episode of the famous Soviet cartoon "Well, wait!", as well as in many feature films to create an appropriate atmosphere of the 1980s era. This song was performed with an acoustic guitar by the main character of the feature film "Courier" (1986) Ivan, a duet with his mother.
Cosmonauts loved the song so much that it became their unofficial anthem, part of their specific space rituals, rituals and traditions. For a long time, "Grass at Home" performed by "Earthlings" has been consistently played before each launch of the spacecraft, when the crew leaves the hotel to the bus, which then takes them to the launch pad of the cosmodrome.
In 1995, the official album of the best songs of the group "Earthlings" was released on the record label "ZeKo Records" under the general title "Grass at Home" (CD / MC), which included the original version of this song in the studio recording of 1983.
