"A ray of the sun of golden darkness was hidden by a veil" – perhaps every inhabitant of the post-Soviet space will recognize the famous "Serenade of the Troubadour" from the favorite children's cartoon from the first lines and mentally sing in Magomayev's voice. Let's find out how composer Gennady Gladkov created a work that has not aged for almost half a century, how it got into the repertoire of Egor Letov and DDT, and why the Troubadour in the second part of the animated story about the Bremen Town musicians "matured" and sang in a completely different voice.
The song was first performed on the Holiday of Spring and Labor – on May 1, 1973, the premiere of the cartoon "In the Footsteps of the Bremen Town Musicians" took place. The tape was a logical continuation of the first part, which was released back in 1969. Vasily Livanov became the director of the cartoon, replacing Inessa Kovalevskaya, who was busy with other projects at that time, in the director's chair.
Composer Gennady Gladkov was invited to work on the music. It was his rock and roll motifs that brought considerable success to the previous part of the cartoon and forever secured the status of the first Soviet rock band for the painted characters. Dry statistics will not allow us to doubt this statement – in two years after the release of the Bremen Town Musicians, records with songs by Troubadour and Company sold 28 million copies. If you still keep precious "vinyl", then you will surely find one of them in your collection.
From the very first days of work on the cartoon, the authors decided to diversify the number of vocal parts. According to Gladkov's memoirs, Oleg Anofriev, who voiced the Troubadour in the first part, by that time began to "be a little moody" and it was decided to find a replacement for him. Since several years have passed since the premiere of the first part, it seemed logical to the animators to change the appearance and voice of the main character – as a result, a charming blond musician sang in the baritone of Muslim Magomayev.
Having written the music for the serenade, Gladkov gave it to the poet Yuri Entin. This wonderful author is familiar to many of us from the classics of children's music of the Soviet era – it was his poems that formed the basis for the songs "Beautiful Far Away" (x / f "Guest from the Future, 1985), "The Road of Good" (x / f "Adventures of Little Muck", 1953), as well as the famous song of Vodyanoi from m/f "Flying Ship", which, by the way, is one of Yuri Sergeevich's favorites.
Entin's lyrics did not work out at first: even when Gladkov handed him the finished melody, the poet could not find the right lines for it for a long time. "Ray of the Golden Sun" was born only after two months of creative research, but the effort was clearly worth it.
Despite the fact that the director of the first part of the cartoon was initially against the idea of a sequel, despite the huge number of reviews from critics who saw acute social satire and caricatures of Brezhnev's daughter in the children's cartoon, "In the footsteps of the Bremen Town musicians" gained huge popularity among viewers of all ages. More importantly, this popularity has not faded with time – generation after generation has grown on the hand-drawn adventures of the famous five artists, and musical works from the cartoon have been reflected in culture more than once.
So, the song got a second wind in the rock community: one day the producer of the group "Civil Defense" turned to Entin and asked the poet for permission to include the famous smash hit in one of the collections of the collective. At first, the author wanted to refuse the "Siberian punks", but after listening to it, he realized that the composition performed by Yegora Letova would sound completely unexpected. In 2002, "The Sun will Rise" was included in the album " GO" under the title "Starfall."
