Palestinian detainee released from Assad’s dungeons after 40 years and sees a mobile phone for the first time in his life.
After over 40 years in Assad regime prisons, Walid Barakat, originally from Nabi Samwil near Jerusalem [Al-Quds], was released and reunited with his family in Jordan. Imprisoned at 25, Barakat emerged as an elderly man without identification.
His nephew, Khalil Barakat, revealed that Barakat spent 14 years in solitary confinement, and his whereabouts were unknown until 1996, when his name appeared on a list of Palestinian detainees in
