The residents of a small Welsh mining village love nothing more than a flutter, much to the disgust of the new vicar, Reverend Simmons. And the biggest gamblers in the village are the Owen family, who bet on everything. But their lives are turned upside down when Grandpa Owen dies and it's discovered that before he died he had won big at the races. Only problem is - where is the betting slip?
Starring Ronnie Barker, Emrys James, Richard O'Callaghan, Margaret John, Beth Morris, Talfryn Thomas, Gwyneth Owen and Lola Morice. This was Ronnie Barker's favourite out of the Seven of One pilots and you can understand why. It was originally going to be the 1st one in the series, but a mining disaster saw it put back to the back of the list and Open All Hours took it's place. And it seems that fate really wasn't on it's side and Open All Hours then got commissioned a series over it, along with another pilot that surprised all by getting the nod. It's name? Prisoner and Escort - or as we now know it, Porridge.
