𝐒𝟎𝟏 𝐄𝟐𝟐 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 While on a night patrol to bring in a prisoner, Sgt. Saunders and his squad discover an American GI in the woods waging a one-man war on his own.
Combat!, a one-hour World War II drama series, followed a front line American infantry squad as they battled their way from D-Day Normandy Invasion across Europe. A series that follows the World War 2 combat experiences and adventures of a squad of US infantrymen in France in 1944. In particular we share the experiences of the squad leader, Sergeant Saunders, and the platoon commander, Lieutenant Hanley. This show along with 12 O'clock High and The Rat Patrol were on while I was in school. The result is that I am just watching many of the episodes for the first time.

Some Trivia:
01: Several sources have stated that Rick Jason was to carry the M1928A1 Thompson sub machine gun. After two days of filming, Jason complained about the weight of the Thompson and switched to the lighter M1 carbine and carried it throughout the rest of the series. Vic Morrow was then given the Thompson to carry. After two weeks he also complained of its weight. A lighter replica Thompson was made out of wood and was carried by Morrow until it was time for a firefight, at which time he would switch back to the real Thompson. The replica can be seen with its incorrect ejection port.
02: Including the first and last episodes, Paul Busch appeared in 33 episodes as different German soldiers and officers. His character usually got killed.
03: Vic Morrow and Rick Jason were essentially co-stars, and for this reason there were two sets of opening credits, some listing Morrow as the lead before Jason, and some listing Jason ahead of Morrow, although not necessarily based on which one had a larger role in a given episode.
04: Although Pierre Jalbert had been employed at MGM for nearly a decade, he had no actual acting experience prior to being cast as Pfc. Paul "Caje" Lemay on the series. Up to that time his job at MGM had been in the capacity of a technician in the film editing department.
05: The distinctive helmet that Sgt. Saunders (Vic Morrow) wore in the series was covered with a piece of nylon, cut from a U.S. paratrooper's camouflaged T-5 main parachute canopy, not a cloth Marine Corps cover, as assumed by many viewers.
06: Pvt. Kirby (Jack Hogan) began carrying the "B.A.R." (Browning Automatic Rifle), a bi-pod-equipped .30-06 machine gun, early in the first season, and continued throughout the run of the series.
07: Lt. Hanley began the show as a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) and was meritoriously promoted to lieutenant later on.
08: The series lasted five years in spite of the fact that only 11 months elapsed between D-Day on 6/6/44 and the German surrender on 5/8/45. However, the episode count (152) was less than half the number of days (336) between the two events.
Goofs:
01: Sgt. Saunders consistently fails to carry spare magazines for his Thompson sub-machine gun.
02: In a lot of the shows, German soldiers are seen wearing large field packs [back packs], even if they are guarding something. Soldiers from all armies are trained to drop their packs before going into action for better maneuverability.
03: The M-1 carbines carried by Lt. Hanley and various other characters have a prominent bayonet lug on the bottom of the barrel, marking them as the later Korean War variant of the weapon. The M-1 carbines issued in World War II were not equipped to mount a bayonet.
04: "The show lasted longer than the war in Europe by Four years. From D Day to end 11 months. The show 5 years." The war in Europe did not start on D-Day. It started in 1939. The US involvement started after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in 1941. Right after that, the US declared war on Japan and Germany declared war on the US.
