When fog grounds all flights from London Airport, relief coach driver Percy Lamb finds himself called upon at the last minute to drive a coach load of passengers through the fog to another airport in Blackbush. As they leave, police discover that £200,000 worth of gold bullion has been stolen and hidden on the coach, along with the mysterious head of the gang, known only to the police as "The Banker" who is among the passengers. As police try and get in contact with the driver to warn them, the coach party find themselves lost in the fog in a destination unknown, and where it seems nobody can be trusted...
Starring Frankie Howerd in his film debut, along with Petula Clark, Margaret Rutherford, Terence Alexander, George Couloris,Toke Townley, Belinda Lee, John Horsely, Stringer Davis, Michael Gwynn, Anthony Oliver, Reginald Beckwith, Marianne Stone, Lisa Gastoni and Sam Kydd. This is from one of my old video tapes from a Channel 4 broadcast in 1990 (complete with adverts) and surprisingly the film has never been repeated since on TV. It's a great comedy mystery and was Frankie Howerd's film debut. Apparently he was asked to do a film, and after initial reluctance agreed only if it was a comedy thriller (so that if the comedy didn't work, there would still be a mystery for the viewers to enjoy), and also that it featured Margaret Rutherford, as he always wanted to work with her. It's just as fun trying to spot the familiar faces in this (him from Bergerac, her from The Huggetts, Annie Sudgen's dad in Emmerdale, etc) as it is trying to work out the banker is in a film where nearly everybody is not who you believe them to be. Enjoy.
