A fantastic, exciting action adventure about King Arthur's Round Table with the 12 knights, filmed in Technicolor and Cinemascope.
The film is based on the King Features syndicated newspaper comic strip PRINCE VALIANT (1937) written by its creator Hal Foster (that is, Harold Rudolf Foster & Dudley Nichols who adapted the unique original story for the wide screen): it was a series of stories that lasted for 8 years and impressed the owner of the newspaper, William Randolph Hearst. Anyway, Foster completed the whole of his Valiant saga with more than 1.700 pages only in 1971 (!).
The filming started after an idea of producer Robert Jacks (son-in-law of Darryl F. Zanuck, he was married with his daughter, Darrylin).
Narrated by the actor Michael Rennie.
Music by the Jewish-German composer Franz Waxman (Wachsmann), who imigrated away from Nazi Germany in 1934.
Produced by Robert L. Jacks.
Directed by Henry Hathaway.
Filmed in 1953 in important historic places in England (Warwick Castle), Scotland (Eilean Donan & Duart & Braemar Castles), Northumberland (Alnwick Castle), Wales (Caernarvon Castle) and places like the Sherwood Forest of Los Angeles in California (USA).
The film PRINCE VALIANT (1997) directed by Anthony Hickock and filmed at Gwrych Castle and Llechwedd (Wales) is also based on the original Foster story.
