Yanush grew up in a conservative roma (gipsy) community in a small Ukrainian town. He is about to get married, just what his parents want. However, Yanush is gay and in love with another young man, Pasha. Together they decide to sneak away from the wedding and leave the town, but can Yanush really do it? Gavura copes with a difficult task: builds a story with many characters, leads several parallel lines - Janusz and Paul, Janusz and his bride, Janusz and his family, and, most importantly, prescribes two versions of the solution, leaving the finale open. It is thanks to the well-thought-out plot, the lack of emphasis on Roma exotics and unpathetic acting works that the whole story turns out to be convincing and fascinating.
