Murano Glass - Explore the old traditional craftsmanship from Italy
The Murano glass charms are some of the most popular items from PANDORA. All of PANDORA´s murano glass is produced in a small island in the Venetian Lagoon called Murano, where glass has been produced for more than 1,200 years.
The craftsmen who use the old artistic way of producing the special murano glass are being held in oath to make sure the quality of murano glass stays the same as it has for centuries. The process starts with different layers of melted glass getting melted upon one another. This way the layers build on top of each other creating a variety of different colours and patterns that are so characteristic for the murano glass charms.
The people working with the glass are called master craftsmen. At this part of the process, the masters pair up two and two, and carefully drag the melted glass into thin rods, that can measure up to 50 meters in length.
Using modern technology together with the knowledge of the ancient skills, it’s also possible to use machines to drag the melted glass.
The final product, the historical and famous Murano Glass, is used to make many different items, such as vases, plates and artistic glasses and of course the wonderful PANDORA Murano glass charms.
