Prescription of Archaic mountain shepherd of Albania & (Balkan) These wolfdog Archaic shepherd came in Balkan together with nomads pastoral societies and merchants from central Asia and steppe of Caucasus by black Sea territory to Balkan as "Root of Ancient Nomadic watchdog". The animals were highly valued for their excellent guarding , fighting with wild predators and hunting talents . The breed has evolved over time without much human involvement . The dogs were kept freely in nature, the strongest survived ( natural selection). They were mentioned by Aristoteli in territory of Molosia "Epirus kingdom "nowday in border of Albania and Greece . In 4th century BC Aristoteli mentioned in territory of Molossia 2 races of dog : 1 molossian hunting which was the favourite mastiff hound of Alexander the Great , imported from Fertile Crescent used for hunting prea and bloody sport in Colosseum to fight with exotic beasts , to entertainment the crowds . 2 Aristoteli mentioned a large powerful mountain shepherd which it looks like a wolf in Anatomy with long hair but not wool, with bush tail located in mountains of "Pind" but not only . The Archaic shepherd of Albania is a strong and ferocious animal , it can combat with wolf a lynx and a wild boar for defending livestock . In traditional ears cropped both or 1 depending ;(1 ear cropped shepherd said that can prevent dogs without getting water in raining time = Balkan superstitions), sometimes tail too . Other Shepherds believed that open cropped ears allowed the dog to hear better . In Albania land , there are short-haired and long-haired varieties of shepherd dogs but not wool . Short-haired animals are more hardy , are not afraid of heat and long transitions , they have long vitality (lifespan )15-20 years old . The long-haired mountain variety or Highlander, are less agile and hardy, with a strong and powerful constitution and bigger in size as an adaptation of environments of Alps . Long-haired dogs began to be used as protect of property in villages use as yard dogs , by basic of Archaic Highlander shepherd , the Yugoslavian Sarplaninac dog breed was created in army kennels / artificial nurseries mix with others breeds as German shepherd, st bernard etc . which began to specialize in protecting objects as army dogs check point etc , but they lost the skills (old instincts) of protecting sheep and fighting predators . Sarplaninac name was given by the exemplar which were taken in Alps of Shar range which extended from Kosovo, North Makedonia & in north east of Albania . Archaic primitive shepherd of Albania is a wolf-dog a short-haired variety of shepherd ; it has retained all the working qualities of its ancestors. In dictatorship of Albania the number of dogs decreased by collectivism of agriculture livestock in (Cooperatives) only few survived . Anatomical prescription The Archaic shepherd of Albania : they are large and strong animal , with varieties of colours , has a relatively short to normal and harsh thick coat, the color can be different varieties . The ears and tail are usually cropped . The head is powerful , with strong jaws , the muzzle is rather short 40 -44% of the skull . Head is triangular V shape or U shape (wolf or bear head ). Teeth : is scissor bite . The neck is broad and muscular, the body is elongated, with a short loin and a rather long, slightly sloping croup. The limbs are of medium length and muscular. The belly is tucked up. The tail is well furred with curve or visible arch . These dog are doubtful with strange people and sometimes react in aggressive way when they are in their territory or when they serve in flock . They are very agile a clear dog which useful adapt fast in different situations , they can survive days without eating .They can walk for long distances in a day. They run fast . . Something must been write straight these dog are breed and select in nature they contain genes of wolf too like aboriginal caucasian shepherd and like aboriginal central Asia shepherd . These Archaic shepherd classified as wolfdog shepherd because in Anatomy they are similar to wolf , many of them walk like a wolf too . After 90s many amateur cultivators take Highlander type and breed in artificial nurseries with the ego to standard this dog with local name and use them in dog fights even mix with other breeds to increase fighting ability . Artificial nurseries dog changed from Native Archaic shepherd. These dog from nurseries are woolly and are more fabricated than natyral they are not with same work ethic like native Highlander and show difficult in adaptation in terrain . Warning Archaic shepherd of Albania should not be a standard breed . We need a architect of livestock not a police dog who is waiting for Owner orders to react. We need a working dog not a pet .
