KYΡΑ ΤΩΝ ΤΡΟΠΙΚΩΝ (Lady of the Tropics) ΕΛΛΗΝΙΚΟΙ Υπότιτλοι: ROBERT TAYLOR, HEDY LAMARR, Joseph Schildkraut -1939
An exotical, dramatic movie capturing all the beauty and youth of Robert Taylor’s and Hedy Lamarr’s glamour –a rare diamond of the past filmed in Angkor Wat Temple (Cambodia), Bangkok (Thailand) and MGM studios in California (USA).
An old-fashioned romantic melodrama written as a tragedy (and set in Indochina, now Vietnam) by the American journalist, crime reporter in Chicago and prolific –politically engaged- novelist, playwright, screenwriter, producer and director Ben Hecht.
Hecht collaborated in writing the script with the famous Austrian-American writer, director and film-maker Joseph von Sternberg (who came to the US, in 1901, at age 7) and the American -former journalist and publicity agent- prolific playwright, screenwriter and script doctor George Seligman Oppenheimer.
The movie was directed by the American actor, producer and director Hugh Ryan (Jack) Conway (with supporting help from the English actor and director Leslie Fenton who lived in the US after he came to the US, at age 6).
Produced by the American film producer and editor Sam Zimbalist (he was born in an Ukrainian Jewish family under the Russian Empire and came to the US in 1914, at age 13).
According to a review, “Made under the Hays code, the ending of the film is obvious and inevitable; also, it closely follows the story of Manon Lescaut, told twice in opera, once by Puccini and once by Massenet. There's a scene from the Puccini version in the film”.
