Last week, the Mesa Public School Board meeting centered on the contentious issue of LGBTQ+ policies, with no clear consensus reached. Out of 26 speakers, 17 addressed the topic, with nine supporting the district's inclusive approach and eight expressing concerns that schools are pushing a social agenda that makes some students uncomfortable. Governing Board candidate Sharon Benson emphasized that parents should have the authority to introduce subjects of sex and sexuality to their children, insisting that teachers should not discuss these issues without parental consent. If schools focused on their primary mission of
