In IELTS Speaking, there are many questions where you need to describe different aspects of something. For example, when talking about your city, you might describe transportation, facilities, and so on. Or, when talking about a job, you could discuss career growth, salary, and other factors.
To smoothly move from one aspect to another, you can use transition phrases like:
🟢When it comes to...
🟢Speaking of...
🟢As far as [SOMETHING] is concerned, ...
But there’s another way that native speakers often use - adding '-wise' at the end of a word.
'-wise' is a popular suffix that native speakers use to sound more casual and natural. You can add "-wise" to almost any word to talk about it from a certain point of view.
FOR EXAMPLE,
🔵 Transport-wise, my city isn't a very convenient place to live (=Speaking of transport, my city isn't a very convenient place to live)
🔵 Entertainment-wise, living in the countryside isn't as exciting as living in the city
This trick helps you sound more like a native speaker because it’s very flexible and used in everyday conversations. Plus, it’s a great word because you can use it in almost any answer.
